Szoke Sweeps the Weekend at CTMP Featured

Szoke Sweeps the Weekend at CTMP 2 The field anxiously awaits direction from the championship to prepare themselves for any future racing.

With COVID restrictions opening the Canadian Superbike Championship has been able to salvage two weekends of Superbike racing so far in conjunction with Pro 6 Cycle. The first double header round held at one of Canada’s most beautiful racetracks at Calabogie Motorsports Park and the second just this past weekend at the famous Canadian Tire Motorsports Park in Bowmanville ON.

13 Time Canadian Superbike Champion Jordan Szoke entered the weekend with maximum points and left once again with a clean sweep. Claiming both victories in Race 1 and 2 and was also awarded pole position for the feature Superbike class.

Jordan saved one of his best performances of his career for race one. Weather conditions were dicey all weekend for the competitors with rain and sun intermittent. After the sighting lap, Szoke made the last second decision to mount his “B bike” which was mounted with a rain front and a slick rear waiting for him in hot pit.

Szoke was forced to start from pit lane, exiting in dead last after the field was safely started. As the track dried Szoke’s gamble paid off as he reeled in the leaders and made a last lap pass stick for the win.

“I have never started from pit lane before.” says Szoke. “It was definitely the right call. I have been in the opposite position before, where the right tire choice was made by others and I’ve watched a win disappear the exact same way. Experience played a major part of this gamble and it paid off.”

Race two started out with dry conditions and the entire field chose slick rubber in the “open tire” race official decision. The entire front row of four had a thrilling battle until just past 1/2 way when the pack came face to face with a wall of water erupting from the sky.

The entire pack checked up quickly only to find one of their competitors falling in the wet and bringing out the red flag to the end of the race.

“I came out of corner three and ran up the hill to corner 4 and there was just this wall of water meeting us.” says Szoke. “I checked up immediately, slick tires in the wet are extremely dangerous. I’m really disappointed for Michel Leon, falling in that particular corner does not always fair out well so we are all super glad he’s ok.”

Jordan has a commanding 71 point lead through the two double header weekends. The future of the series is still in question if there will be the opportunity for any more racing. The field anxiously awaits direction from the championship to prepare themselves for any future racing.
