One Of Our Own Needs Help

DarrylSubmitted to us by Bruno G. Recently I received an email from Don Meeker. Like so many riders, Don used to be a member of the Durham Harley Owners Group.

In fact he used to be the Co Director of the Chapter and he volunteered to help organize many of the different events that our Chapter hosted or participated in. The purpose of the email was to reach out to the Chapter and let us know that one of our former members was having some health issues and as a result of these issues his income was been effected. So as in the past when our Chapter has rallied to help riders, non riders, chapter members, former chapter members or never a chapter member when they have ran into a "life issue." We dig down and do what we can, whether it was a house fire, illness, or moving because they could no longer afford their house, the members in the Durham Harley Owners Group have rallied to help those less fortunate deal with their "life situations."

DarrylPictured are Tammy and Darryl beside their bike.Such is the case with our former member Darryl Penwright. Darryl is on daily dialysis which he was doing at home but now he needs to go to the hospital to receive the life saving treatment. Ultimately he will likely receive a kidney transplant. He is not working and his short term disability has reached the maximum weeks that he can claim and has been reduced to short term disability. The amount received on his long term disability is a lesser amount that that received on short term disability. I don't have all the details but you know after a certain number of weeks that even the long term disability will be eventually cut off.

Darryl is married to Tammy. They met at Cathy's Cafe (which became the One Stop Restaurant and it became Georges Fish and Chips.) Tammy is the daughter of the former owner of Cathy's, and was a waitress when she met Darryl. They married and eventually their family grew to a total of 7 one youngster from a previous relationship and 4 young children ranging in age from 2 to 10. ...

A friend of Darryl's and also a former member of our Chapter, Dennis Theriault and another friend of Darryl's and a long time member of our Chapter Dave Broughton have established a fund to assist the Penwright family with the necessary monthly expenses and keep them up to date. If you are able to be of any assistance to our fellow rider, could you please purchase a gift card from No Frills, Foodland, Walmart or Costco for whatever amount you are comfortable with and send the gift card to Dennis Theriault 1411 Evangeline Drive Oshawa Ontario L1J 3S8.
