RuRoC Atlas 2.0 Helmet Review Featured

 ruroc atlas 20 helmet review The day dawned cloudy, but there was hope for sunshine and little rain.  For mid-February, it was a good day to ride.

I was first impressed at how quickly the helmet arrived…from overseas.  These helmets can be shipped literally anywhere, and in no time at all. I opened the outer carton to find a beautiful, black sleek box.  I am a believer that the quality of the outside says a lot about the quality on the inside. Inside, I found a gorgeous helmet, safely tucked inside a drawstring bag – protected from dust and scratches.  I was also pleasantly surprised to find an additional sun visor – also safely inside its own drawstring protective bag. Class all the way! The sturdy, sleek box is also lined with foam on the bottom, another layer of protection for this beautiful helmet.  I will definitely keep the box as a safe storage option IF I am not using this helmet.

I spent some time getting to know the newest addition to my family of motorcycle gear.  I have to admit, I was a tad worried about not being able to control all the vents – there are 6 of them! Being February and riding in 6-9 degree Celsius weather…I was a little concerned. Needlessly of course.

We headed out winding through the Oceanside route, joining the highway after about 25 km.  I noticed right away that the Atlas 2.0 was light and extremely comfortable. The padding inside seemed to find its place without any effort from me.  No adjusting at all, I just put it on and away I went. The “buckle” is amazing, once I had it figured out it required zero effort again, from me…simply find the ends and let them attract each other…and they stay attracted to each other until you want them to come apart.  I was also thrilled that the viewing area through the visor was so clear and large, absolutely zero impingement to my peripheral vision. Now, to test at highway speed. I did notice a bit of darkness lurking on the horizon as we headed north. Looks like I may also get to test the rain seal….

Once out of the 70km/per hour zone and on the highway, I was able to determine that there was no “bobble head” effect.  I use a windscreen which ends about mouth/chin level for me. I typically look over it, rather than through it. This also means that the wind deflected off it hits my helmet and can jerk it around a bit.  Not this one though. The Atlas 2.0 is perfectly balanced, even when shoulder checking, there was zero pull on my head, neck and shoulders. This will be phenomenal for reducing my neck and shoulder fatigue on those long rides.  I hit the Inland Island Highway where the legal speed limit is 110 km/hr and still no “bobble head”.

I felt the temperature drop around Parksville/Qualicum and that darkness that was lurking on the horizon became rain. I regretted not wearing rain gear…for about a second.  I ride whenever I can, and I live in a rainforest…so I don’t stop or slow down much for rain. I had the front vent partially open, to direct air at the visor to avoid fogging up.  I didn’t experience fogging at any time. With the modular I used to use for winter riding, I have to leave the visor cracked open to avoid fogging, letting the rain enter. Not so with the Atlas 2.0.  I made sure the visor was clicked closed to enact the rain seal, and absolutely no rain entered, and the visor didn’t fog at all – it stayed crystal clear. Dry and warm, with crystal clear vision…that gets a big WOW from me!

All in all, it was about 4 hours on the bike with the Atlas 2.0 helmet.  End verdict, this is an amazing helmet! I would give it 5 out of 5 bikes up! I am really looking forward to summer, I feel like the way the vents work is almost intuitive…oh, and the front vent is adjusted from the inside, which I also wasn’t sure about...but I was able to access the switch easily on the fly…from beneath the helmet or by opening the visor and reaching in, which was no problem even with 2 layers of gloves on.
