cross greyWe as bikers humble ourselves before our brothers, but how about other people? Would you open a door at a store for a strange woman or even some dude going the same way as you?

OneBikerBrotherhood Under God

cross greyI have been seeing a lot in the news about the shooting in Waco, Teas and how law enforcement have handled the situation, but I have also seen how it has catapulted the intensity the government is putting towards trying to take away the colors ( emblems identifying) the name of the organizations.

Contemporary worship v.s. Biker worship

cross greyFirst we need to know what worship is. According to the strongs dictionary in the old testiment it means to prostrate oneself, bow down, the act of bowing down in homage is generally done before a superior or ruler.

Chuck PearceOnce again I heard people debating the advantages of running synthetic oil in their motorcycles, versus conventional High-Viscosity oil and finally decided to do a little research so that I wasn’t totally ignorant of the pros and cons that people seemed to be debating.

Fat rear tires, myths and truths.

Chuck PearceA couple months ago I sold my Street Glide and bought a new Fat Boy, so this being my fourth Harley, I have become accustomed to the feel, handling and ride of these big beauties.

Friends

Chuck PearceDon’t know about you, but over the years it seems the majority of my friendships are with people who have a common interest, and it’s not hard to guess that commonality is motorcycles.

Chuck PearceToday I wound up making one wrong turn and later blowing a turn-off that took me a couple of kilometers to correct, thanks to multiple “NO U-TURN” signs. It could be me, but in both cases I found the signage to be really confusing.

Thoughts from the VAN MC Show

Rev Chuck PearceAs part of the host team at the SOLID ROCK BIKER CHURCH exhibitor booth at the big bike show last weekend, I have to say it was a success simply based on the huge crowds . . . and all the smiling faces. And what biker or future biker would not love all the amazing deals and newest innovations, like the electric Harley-Davidson. It really was a motorcycle extravaganza. And there were even a couple of three wheeled models for those people who are looking for something completely different.

Inflation, inflation, inflation!

Rev Chuck PearceIn a recent conversation about motorcycle safety, the topic of tires and tire inflation came up, so I did a little research on the internet and here are some facts that I found really interesting, but first let me say this . . .

Blowing in the wind:

Rev Chuck PearceOn a recent ride I was reminded just how cold it is to ride on a winter day with the wind howling  and battering you. On the west coast this time of year, asking for a warm, sunny day without rain, wind or both is a tall order.

Biker Resolutions:

Rev Chuck PearceWell it’s that time of year again where a lot of us are making New Year’s resolutions and I thought it would be interesting to find out what some biker’s ideas are when it comes to their resolutions.

Christmas Wishes:

Rev Chuck PearceI am thinking if a world-wide poll was taken, some of the most common wishes at this time of the year would include; world peace, contentment, happiness, good health, financial stability and healthy relationships.

One word that could change your life.

Rev Chuck PearceAnd no, the word is not “lottery.”  And it isn’t money either. Nor is it Hawaii, graduation, championship or motorcycle.  Although it should be said that any of these would in fact provide some degree of exhilaration and temporary happiness, they would not change your life.

Faith & Motorcycles - Insurance:

Rev Chuck PearceIt occurred to me just this week how much money I spend every year on insurance.  I have a life insurance policy and a disability insurance policy, two different policies on my motorcycle, and one for my pickup truck.

Big City Riding

Rev Chuck PearceBig City Riding:

Riding in Metro Vancouver has over the years become a bit of a turkey shoot… do we have some of the world’s worst drivers or what ? I tend to think so. I cannot count the number of times I have been cut off and nearly hit in this past couple of years.

The Perfect Road

Rev Chuck PearceIs there such a thing as the perfect road for a biker?  Would it be a winding mountain highway? Perhaps a highway that hugs a coastline with dips and curves and incredible ocean views? Or for the fast and furious, maybe it’s a straight stretch of a desert highway?  And I have known others who have traveled to South America or India and literally rode on the roads less travelled by motorcyclists.

Different Strokes for Different Folks

Rev Chuck PearceI stopped in at a couple Harley-Davidson dealerships last weekend, you know that feeling, “Just window shopping”. . . and I couldn’t believe the new models and the many different looks of this classic machine. Lots of “Bobber” styles and the Dyna’s look (and ride) incredible.  Some of the touring bikes have navigation screens and quick release really is quick release. . . not like it was 15 years ago. And the variety of paint jobs and colors is astounding. Literally, something for everybody.

Our favorite things:

Rev Chuck PearceOK now, if somebody asked you what your 3 most favorite things are about your bike, how would you answer? Tough question.

Highways to where?

Rev Chuck PearceFor some reason, there have been a lot of popular songs over the years that bear titles  and include lyrics about highways and roads. Some of the more popular ones include;  Highway to Hell, The Long and Winding Road, Country Roads, Life is a Highway, Blue Highway, Many a Long and Lonesome Highway and the list goes on and on.

Emblems and logos are everywhere

Rev Chuck PearceEveryone has their favorite emblem, whether it’s the ‘Harley Davidson’ skull or the “Forda” logo or some of the world’s most recognized ones like “APPLE” computers, “Ferrari”,  “Starbucks” and how about the super heroes? The batman logo comes to mind which is quickly followed by sports logos like the “New York Yankees NY” and “Adidas” and the famous “NIKE check-mark”.

On Wings of Eagles

Rev Chuck PearceEagles seem to be synonymous with motorcycles. We see eagles in emblems, logos, club patches and on a vast array of merchandise, ranging from T-shirts to coffee mugs, helmets, leather jackets and vests and the list is endless.  In some cases eagle images are only of parts of an eagle, like the head, eyes & beak or wings. And how many tattoos have an eagle (or part of one) on their bodies, indelibly etched onto their body for the duration of this life.

Rev Chuck PearceThe internet is abuzz with “fuel cell” technology and Suzuki appears to be the leader and favorite to introduce the first fuel cell powered motorcycles in the not too distant future.

The great headlight debate:

Rev Chuck PearceMy 2008 Road King had the killer headlight and running lights so night riding was a piece of cake and oncoming traffic would be hard pressed not to see me coming. Honestly the set up of lights on this biker were amazing. Particularly when compared to the single head light versions I had ridden in years past.

What are these people thinking ?!

Rev Chuck PearceWhat am I missing here with this “Running of the Bulls” thing? The Running of the Bulls  is a practice that involves people running in front of a small group of about a dozen bulls that have been let loose on a course through city streets that have been sectioned off.  It seems the origin of this event comes from the need to transport the bulls from the their pens where they had spent the night, to the bullring where they would be killed later that day. And just exactly why people jump into the roads at yearly festivals where the bulls will be snorting, bucking and racing at insane speeds is anyone’s guess. Personally, I don’t get it.

Wednesday, 24 September 2014 06:00

Hey! What’s going on here?

Rev Chuck PearceWhy is it that lately people are talking so quietly?  And how come my pipes don’t sound as loud as they once did? They say that as we age, not unlike an old motorcycle or cage, our bodies and our senses begin to take a step or two back.

Camera, Camera everywhere a Camera

Rev Chuck PearceRemember the song by The Five Man Electrical Band that was released in 1970 titled, “Sign, Sign everywhere a Sign”? According to one article, the average big city resident walks into the view of a camera 75 times a day, a far cry from an estimated 300 times a day in London, where it is said there is one camera for every 14 residents. And this doesn’t include cameras at intersections that capture us while driving or riding as a passenger in a vehicle or on a bike.

Focus, Focus, Focus

Rev Chuck PearceDon’t know about you, but having been riding more than usual this year thanks to the great weather I have found myself losing focus far too often while riding my Street Glide on city and country roads.

Beware of man-hole covers

Rev Chuck PearceDuring the course of this amazing summer for biking I have been riding my scoot around town more than any other year… why not when the weather is so great? And almost subconsciously I am choosing lanes next to the ones with those crazy man hole covers.

U.F.O.s

Rev Chuck PearceWith what I believe has been the best ever summer weather here at the coast the rides have been more frequent and the mileage has been accumulating. Now combine that with the heat and while not being safety conscious I have to admit to wearing T-shirts and sleeveless Ts much of the time and am showing the scars to prove it.
