Alberta man who used high beams on sheriff’s vehicle wins court case Featured

AB tireThis "good news" story is reminiscent of an experience during a ride after dark in Michigan a few years ago.

Michele and I were returning from Seasons Of Refreshing venue  to our motel 20 minutes away.

It was pitch dark & I was alternating between my high beams and low as traffic approached us.
Our HD Ultra Limited has very bright LED lights. That bike model has spot headlights as well as the main head lamp.
When high beam is chosen the spots go off. When high beams are turned off the spots light up. I suspect this change of brightness my cause unsuspecting drivers to misunderstand which is actually brighter.

A State Trooper pulled us over saying we failed to only dim our lights to other drivers and not to her. I replied not so.

Think about it. It's pitch dark, all one sees coming at self are car headlights and you can not make out any features of the vehicle approaching such as a light bar or police car bubble on the roof (Michigan State Police cars have a single bubble on the car roof).
When I tried to explain the high versus low beam and spot versus main head light function she refused to listen sending me to stand at the bike while she checked both our ID by car radio. Michele protested why she had to provide ID - she wasn't driving!
The Trooper returned, handed back our ID and "let me off with a warning" for something I didn't do wrong. Too funny. I guess she had to sound smart or correct and not lose face.
We blessed her to work safe and departed.
It pays to stand up for your rights even in the face of authority, misguided as it can be.
