Christian Motorcyclists Association Members Key To Event

atlanticade logoThe 9th annual ATLANTICADE Motorcycle Festival will kick off on July 1st with Canada Day celebrations in downtown Moncton featuring an open air concert by Trooper followed by a spectacular fireworks display.

That is followed by four more days of activities, vendors, live entertainment, bike displays, guided tours and much more which will attract participants from across North America.

Throughout the five day festival, as has been the case over the past eight years, one aspect will catch your attention. That will be the tireless efforts of members of the Christian Motorcyclists Association who volunteer their time to coordinate all traffic and parking control.

The group stepped forward in year one asking what they could do to help” recalls festival founder and chairman Dale Hicks. “We said we could use some help parking bikes and making sure members of the public can mingle about the festival site without getting run over. Nine years later they are still with us. Given we have held this event in three separate locations that says a lot about their level of commitment.”

Coordinated by Dave MacNeill his volunteers come from all over the maritimes. Sometimes CMA members will sign up from outside the maritimes to be part of the team and experience the event from the perspective of a volunteer. This year will see a special appearance by members of a CMA chapter in New Orleans, LA.

Former bike gang member Billy Rivers, who spent several years in prison, is now the chaplain of the New Orleans chapter and he along with wife Donna will be joining fellow CMA volunteers in Moncton. In fact he will be the guest speaker at the bikers Sunday Service to be held on the festival grounds. It is also expected he will be speaking to a couple youth groups in the City during his stay.

His life story from hard-core biker serving time in prison, to chaplain of a CMA chapter is quite inspiring and interesting” says Hicks. “We are glad he and his wife will be attending this year all the way from New Orleans.”

The CMA group overall plays a really important role in our event” states Hicks. “They make sure traffic keeps flowing and everyone has a place to park. Every year they get accolades form participants and law enforcement officials for their efforts.”
